Review: Second Chance Summer, Kait Nolan

second chance summer Kait Nolan Did you ever go to camp? In Second Chance Summer you are going to Camp Firefly Falls, a new book of Kait Nolan. Not all the writers are so famous that everyone will know immediately who they are. Kait Nolan is maybe not so famous, but every time I read one of her books, I enjoy them very much.

Kait Nolan is a romance author, mostly know for her Wishful Serie. She is a Mississippi native and has something for everyone, from short and sweet to Southern contemporary romance to action-packed paranormal. The heroines she writes typify the strengths of women. She also loves some alpha heroes, but she always seem to gravitate toward telling the women’s story. Kait is juggling a full time job in university level research, and two part time teaching positions that take advantage of her Master’s degree in clinical psychology.
When not working or writing, Kait Nolan is hanging out in her kitchen cooking and wishing life were a Broadway musical.

In Second Chance Summer Audrey goes for the first time in her life to camp. “Professor Audrey Graham shouldn’t be alive. But after two years of physical therapy and countless surgeries, she’s got a second lease on life. First stop? Camp Firefly Falls to try and catch up on some of the living she never did before her accident. Firefighter Hudson Lowell shouldn’t be alive. In the wake of losing two members of his team in a structure fire gone wrong, he’s been unable to work, unable to pull himself out of the survivor’s guilt. In a last ditch effort to snap him out of it, his family surprises him with a 2 week reunion session at Camp Firefly Falls. The last thing he expects to find is the woman he helped cut out of a snarled up wreck of a car two years before.”

Kait Nolan is a great writer. I loved the story in Second Chance Summer. It gives you the insights what survivor’s guilt is and how you can deal with something terrible that happend in your life. Audrey had a terrible accident and has daily discomforts and pain to deal with, but she has chosen life. Not everything is possible anymore, but she wants to live and get the most out of the moments. I really loved the way she sees life:
“I’m not living my life for the future anymore. I’m living it for the now. Because the now is the only thing you’re ever guaranteed to have.”

Second Chance Summer combines the nostalgic feelings with a difficult subject and a lot of humor and joy. It was like I was there at camp. Like I did all of the activities and enjoyed every moment of it. I specially loved the Disney movie references! Did you know for example that Aurora only has eighteen lines of dialog in the entire movie?

8.5 Stars8.5 / 10 If you haven’t read anything yet by Kait Nolan, this is your chance to experience how good she is. Second Chance Summer will take you to camp, where you laugh, sit by the campfire, do all sort of activities and discover who you are. But most important, it will let you fall in love.
